Clinical Trials

Clinical trials are conducted to evaluate new drugs or treatments in scientifically controlled settings. Regulated in the United States by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), clinical trials help advance healthcare by testing the effectiveness and safety of a therapeutic agent (drug, vaccine or device) using consenting human subjects.

The American Lung Association wants our patient and caregiver visitors to be aware of the following clinical trial programs:

Asthma Clinical Research Center (ACRC) Clinical Trials The American Lung Association-Asthma Clinical Research Centers (ACRC) network is an American Lung Association-sponsored research program that undertakes large clinical trials that will provide useful information important to the direct care of people who have asthma. The network, with 20 clinical centers and a data coordinating center, is the largest of its kind outside the pharmaceutical industry.   Thus, the ACRC is playing a unique and important role in asthma research.  The ACRC Network is  sorting out a myriad of ‘simple’ questions that are important to asthma patients’ daily care.

National Cancer Institute (NCI) Clinical Trials – NCI’s Center for Cancer Research (CCR) is NCI's largest division doing research on  the National Institue of Health (NIH) campus, conducts lung cancer clinical trials at the NIH Clinical Center in Bethesda, Md. NCI accepts referrals to lung cancer clinical trials conducted in Bethesda, Md., through its Clinical Trials Referral Office.

NCI is currently conducting the following trials for patients with lung cancer. Click here for details.
