Our Research
Our quest to find cures and new and improved treatments for lung disease uses a multi-faceted approach to discovery. The American Lung Association Nationwide Research efforts are composed of three programs: Awards and Grants Program, Asthma Clinical Research Centers Network and the Epidemiology and Statistics Program.
The Awards and Grants Program supports basic "bench" research, as well as social-behavioral and clinical research designed to translate basic discoveries into new treatments and cures for lung disease. This program plays a critical role in attracting and retaining the nation's best and most talented scientists into lung disease research.
The Asthma Clinical Research Centers Network (ACRC), the largest clinical network of its kind, consists of 18 sites across the country and a Data Coordinating Center that conducts large clinical trials which have a direct impact on asthma patient care and treatment.
The Epidemiology and Statistics is an internal program responsible for examining and analyzing lung disease data trends. The program also tracks data on behaviors and exposures that impact on the risk of developing lung disease in the general population.
