For Professionals

The American Lung Association offers annual funding opportunities as a part of its Awards and Grants Program.  The Awards and Grants Program supports basic, clinical and behavioral/policy research through training and investigator-initiated peer-review proposals.

The goal of the American Lung Association Awards and Grants Program is to fund researchers at important crossroads of their careers to gain long-term commitment to lung disease research.  The American Lung Association is particularly interested in highly meritorious research projects consistent with our mission related Strategic Planning Goals:

  • Eliminate tobacco use and tobacco-related lung diseases
  • Improve the air we breathe so it will not cause or worsen lung disease
  • Reduce the burden of lung disease on patients and their families

The staff of the Epidemiology and Statistics Unit is responsible for conducting analyses of raw data from government surveys available through the National Center for Health Statistics and other agencies. These analyses are used to develop Disease Trend Reports on lung disease mortality, prevalence, hospitalization, economic costs and risk factors.  The documents are data-rich and are intended for professional audiences as they provide more in-depth statistics than fact sheets and lung disease reports. This information can be used to make data-driven decisions about program implementation and support.

The American Lung Association is not currently accepting applications for its Asthma Clinical Research Center Network.
