Vermont Idle-Free Fleets

Idle Free VT

A growing number of Vermont towns and businesses are adopting a vehicle idling policy through the American Lung Association’s Vermont Idle-Free Fleets (VIFF). Thanks to a grant from the Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation, the ALAVT offers free training, technical support and materials to community groups. We will provide you with all you need to work with local businesses, department of public works, hospitals, etc. to encourage adoption of an idling reduction policy, especially for diesel trucks.

Why join VIFF?

Reducing vehicle emissions, especially from diesel trucks, reduces health risks to drivers and others breathing the exhaust, saves money by reducing fuel use and engine wear and tear, conserves energy and cuts greenhouse gas emissions.

Who can join VIFF?

Anyone interested in promoting a healthier and cleaner Vermont community. In addition to Town Energy Committees, we can train groups promoting sustainability, community health and/or fighting climate change.

What do others say?

Chris Keyser, President, Keyser Energy: “This [idling reduction policy] offers many good things. It saves money, decreases our carbon footprint and air pollution. We are hoping by our example to show others a better way of doing business in Vermont.” See enclosed additional testimony.
