Kentucky Advocacy
Tobacco
In Kentucky's Legislative Session 2009 the American Lung Association in Kentucky assisted in raising the state's tobacco excise tax by $0.30 bringing Kentucky's tobacco tax to $0.60 total. This in connection with the federal tobacco increase has greatly impacted the demand for tobacco cessation help.
Kentucky now has 24 smoke-free communities. The American Lung Association in Kentucky continues to assist with local communities' efforts to go smoke-free. For more information on how to support smoke-free efforts in Kentucky please sign up below.
Radon
The American Lung Association in Kentucky has provided a great deal of education and awareness at the grassroots level and is currently assisting in publishing a policy maker brief. The focus of radon advocacy is to pass administrative regulations guiding radon testing and mitigation as well as pursue tax incentives for builders to use Radon Resistant New Construction.
